Nutrition

The British government recommends an intake of 5 portions (5 of fruit and 5 of vegetables) each day. The United States recommends 3 portions per day. In Japan the recommended daily intake is 17 portions per day. The recommendations differ from place to place. Countries with a lower consumption of vegetables and fruit face greater health challenges.

We recognise that good nutrition is important for children's overall health and well-being. Children's meals are prepared 3 times daily and incorporate a good variety of fish, meats, vegetables and fruit and super foods. Meals are prepared from fresh ingredients by our nursery chef. We put particular emphasis on sourcing seasonal foods, which are grown in the UK, are fresher, have been stored for less time, have travelled less, have not undergone chemical ripening, are unwaxed and have higher levels of vitamins and minerals to support strong growth and development.

We buy our fresh ingredients including meat, fruit and vegetables from Waitrose each week. We use Waitrose because they have the highest animal welfare protocols of any UK supermarket for hens, chickens, diary cows and calves, sows and pigs. Antibiotics must not be used routinely or as a prophylactic on animals that provide meat, eggs, milk or farmed salmon in to the supply chain.

We rely upon parents to inform us of children’s known allergies and food intolerances.  Allergy discovery is an ongoing process, so please keep us informed of any reactions you may notice at home.

We are experienced in caring for children with special dietary requirements due to allergies, religious grounds and vegetarians. Parents should provide Formula milk and allergy alternatives where appropriate.
